South Africa - No Wind

18.02.2009 - Travel

Manno-oh! I show up at 9 o'clock at the sports center to be on the safe side. You never know how the wind will develop. But Nicole welcomes me with a shake of her head: "No lessons today". The wind changes direction constantly and suddenly stops completely, which is extremely bad for kiting, considering that the board hardly gives any buoyancy and the way to shore would be connected with a longer swim. Whew!

Back at Puza Moya, Corinne devotes herself to acquiring illegal Lost series which are only on TV in the US and I meanwhile reprogram the dice game 'Ten Thousand' in C#, which Corinne and I play frequently to pass the time while waiting for food and generally this vacation. I started programming only to support my thesis in a dispute with Corinne that it makes no sense to discard an already sure 5 if the expected value for a new roll is lower than the already rolled number of points. So much for the theory. I have my fun with implementing inerfaces and fourth dice players, which I let play 100'000 times against each other. Corinne's strategy turned out to be not so bad after all - but only because... Anyway, Corinne has meanwhile subpoenaed the Lost series and we watch the new episodes amicably.

So another vacation day passes with lazing around and reading. I'm proud to have finished my 1300-page C# book soon, while Corinne has read 8 novels! But now I know the advantages and disadvantages of C# compared to Java. Also not bad. To each his own. When the Austrians returned from Cape Town in the evening, they told us that they had seen some paragliders at Lions Head. Sure, finally no wind at the Cape and I am exactly in the opposite region and still waiting for wind there. That's what I call irony!
